Bone involvement

Bone involvement is very common among people with Gaucher disease, so it is important to have regularly scheduled tests to monitor bone status. These tests include an MRI and an X-ray of the thigh bone, or X-ray of the spine, every one to two years, depending on your physician’s recommendation and the severity of your symptoms.

An MRI is a test technique that uses a powerful magnet linked to a computer to create detailed pictures of areas inside the body. During the test, patients must lie still on a bed inside the MRI scanner. Although the procedure is painless, some children may need anesthesia and some adults may need a sedative to keep from moving.
